The Chola Kings:-
1. Vijayala established Chola Kingdom in A.D. 846. Chola King Parantaka I conquered the land of the Pandyas and took the title of Madurai kondavan (the conqueror of Madurai). Rajaraja’s son, Rajendra was more ambitious king of the Kingdom. The capital of the Chola kingdom was at Tanjore to begin with, later it was moved to Kanchipuram (near modern Chennai).
2. The gateway of the temples in South India were known as the Gopuram.
3. Tamil is the oldest of all the South Indian languages.
4. Shankara, who lived in eighth century A.D. in Kerala, gave a philosophy to the people, known as the system of ‘Advaits’ (the unique which has no second.)
