Examination Pattern for Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2020

The function of any examination pattern is to give a blueprint to the students about the division of sections in question paper along with the prescribed marking scheme by the concerned examination authority.

The UPTET exam pattern 2020 is decided by the experienced committee of UPBEB. The UPTET 2020 examination is divided into two papers.
Candidates who are interested to invest their teaching aptitude in Primary classes (Class 1st to 5th) usually apply for Paper 1.

Paper 1 grants them the the eligibility certificate to participate in the recruitment process for the teaching posts in esteemed educational institutions of State Government and Private sectors.

On the other hand, Paper 2 is conducted to provide eligibility certificate to those candidates who aspire to teach upper primary classes (Class 6th to 8th) in Government and Private Schools of Uttar Pradesh.
  • UPBEB conducts the UPTET examination in offline mode, which means that they will give their exam in pen paper mode and not CBT mode.
  • One of the most significant facts about the UPTET 2020 examination pattern is that Paper 1 comprise 5 sections from different subjects and Paper 2 is made up of 4 sections including the specialized subject opted by the student.
  • Students have to complete their examination within the time duration of 2.5 hours or 150 minutes. The time duration for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 is same.
  • The question paper will comprise the questions in the form of MCQs (Multiple choice questions).
  • According to UPTET 2020 marking scheme, 1 mark will be awarded to students for every correct answer.
  • There is a positive aspect in UPTET pattern 2020 that there will be no negative marking for the wrong answers. Candidates are suggested to attempt as many questions as possible in a stress free manner.
  • The number of questions in UPTET 2020 examination is 150 and each question will be followed by 4 different options from which only one option would be the correct answer.
  • Candidates can apply for both papers according to their eligibility to apply for the exam.

The level of paper 1 and paper 2 is different because paper 1 is of general nature whereas paper 2 is designed to measure the specialised knowledge related to the subject.

Examination Pattern for UPTET Paper 2 

In paper 1 the marking scheme is divided equally for all sections. Each section comprise 30 marks and there is no negative marking for the wrong answers.

Analysing the nature of UPTET Paper 1 and Paper 2

  • Paper 1 includes the questions from general sections like Child Development and Teaching methods, Language 1 (Hindi), Language 2 (English, Urdu or Sanskrit), Mathematics and Environmental Science.
  • It is very significant to have good comprehension skills to solve the questions from Language sections because that particular section includes the questions, which asks the candidates to read the given paragraphs carefully and selecting the appropriate answers for the questions.
  • To solve the language section with good time management and accuracy, it is essential for the candidate to develop the excellent reading habit.
  • Child Development and Pedagogy section which is also called Child Development and Teaching Methods, checks the ability of candidates to solve the problems related to child’s psychology and its development. 
  • This is one of the most important and useful sections for the teaching aspirants because it helps them to build the required thinking ability and a good skill set to develop appropriate teaching aptitude for long run. 
  • Also both papers for UPTET comprise CDP section but the difficulty level of the questions is somewhat more in Paper 2. 
  • Candidates are suggested to prepare this section with accuracy and authenticity as getting good marks in CDP section will ensure them about the quality of their teaching ability.
  • The questions from EVS section is all about the awareness regarding Environmental science and General awareness. 
  • Candidates can score good marks in this particular section by keeping themselves updated about the new initiatives introduced to solve the prevalent environmental issues. 
  • This is one of the scoring section for UPTET candidates if they are well versed with the current innovatives taking place in the society.
  • The section of Maths comprise the questions which requires a strong base to solve mathematical problems. 
  • Although the questions are not very difficult because the paper is designed to check the basic mathematical ability of the candidate. 
  • Students can prepare in an appropriate manner for this section if they refer N.C.E.R.T. books of Maths. 
  • Paper 2 of UPTET is divided into 4 major sections. The focus of the candidates should be on the Child Development and Teaching Methods section. 
  • The questions from this particular section can be solved only when the candidate has the deeper knowledge about the theories and concepts related to child’s psychology. 
  • Paper 2 of UPTET evaluates the subjective knowledge of the candidate because without the good quality of knowledge regarding the specialized subject, the candidate will not be able to provide authentic education to students after acquiring the teaching post.
  • Also, major portion of paper 2 comprises the questions from specialized subject of the candidate. 
  • This section is of 60 marks and requires the deeper knowledge on the part of the candidate regarding the associated pedagogy to be used with that particular subject along with accurate conceptual knowledge.
  • Candidates must attempt only those questions which are based on their respective chosen subjects (Maths and Science/Social Science).

Q: May I know the number of questions asked in UPTET exam?
A: The UPTET Paper 1 consists of 150 questions and similarly in Paper 2 total 150 questions are asked.

Q: Is UPTET examination conducted with objective type questions?
A: Yes, you have to attempt the questions in objective form by choosing a correct answer from 4 different options.

Q: Paper 2 of UPTET is conducted to teach which level of classes?
A: After qualifying the UPTET Paper 2 exam, you will get the official eligibility certificate from UPBEB to teach upper primary classes (Class 6th to 8th) in any state Government and Private schools of Uttar Pradesh.
